FAQ / Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Which iPhone models support simultaneous portrait and landscape recording?
DuoCamRecorder uses Apple's AVCaptureMultiCamSession to record two outputs from the selected camera, which requires an iPhone XS / XS Max / XR or later. Older devices can only run a single capture pipeline at a time and are not supported.
What's the difference between the layouts?
Fullscreen: The portrait preview fills the screen with the landscape output visible as a floating picture-in-picture overlay in the corner.

Side-by-Side (Pro): Portrait and landscape previews are displayed next to each other, split across the screen โ€” useful when you want to monitor both outputs while recording.
What resolutions and frame rates are available?
DuoCamRecorder supports 1080p HD (free), and 4K UHD (Pro). Frame rates available are 30 fps (free) and 60 fps (Pro).

Note: 60 fps may fall back to 30 fps in some cases if the selected resolution can't be sustained in dual-camera mode on your device.
Where are my recordings saved?
Recordings are saved to your Photos library by default. If you enable "Save Both Files to Library" in Settings, both the portrait (vertical) and landscape (horizontal) recordings are saved as separate files. You can also find recordings within the app itself.
How does the teleprompter work?
Tap the teleprompter icon in the top bar to enable the overlay and enter your script. When you start recording, the text will begin scrolling automatically. When you stop, scrolling pauses and resumes from the same position when you record again. You can adjust the scroll speed and reset the position at any time.
Can I use an external microphone or AirPods?
Yes. Open Settings (the gear icon) and scroll to "Audio Input." Any connected audio device โ€” AirPods, wired headset, or USB-C audio adapter โ€” will appear there. You can also choose "Microphone Mode" to switch between Standard, Voice Isolation, and Wide Spectrum (controlled by iOS).
How do I restore my DuoCam Pro purchase?
Open the Settings sheet (gear icon), scroll to the bottom, and tap "Restore Purchase." Your purchase is linked to your Apple ID, so it works across all your devices. If the restore doesn't work, reach out on social media.
My camera shows a black screen or the app crashes on launch. What should I do?
1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and make sure DuoCamRecorder has permission.
2. Do the same for Microphone and Photos.
3. Force-quit the app (swipe up from the home bar) and relaunch.
4. Restart your iPhone.
5. If the issue persists, reach out on social with your iPhone model and iOS version.
Does DuoCamRecorder collect any of my data?
No. DuoCamRecorder does not collect, upload, or share any personal information or recordings. Everything stays on your device. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.
